Trip Summary
Travel in luxury by private rail car with the Cincinnati Railway Company to New Orleans for Mardi Gras. Experience this old fashioned mode of travel all the while being pampered by the comfort and luxury a private rail car has to offer. Enjoy first class service, gourmet food prepared by our private chef and drink as you travel. Take time to enjoy the use of the dome lounge in The Observatory which affords you a 360-degree unobstructed view of the countryside. Retire to your private accommodations anytime. Your private bedroom converts from your own private lounge during the day to a bedroom at night. We have a layover in Washington, D.C. both ways so you’ll have time plenty of to check out our nation’s capitol on this trip. Once in New Orleans you are free to explore the city and join in celebrating Mardi Gras!
Itinerary
Thursday, February 19th
7:30 p.m. Board The Observatory and the Birch Grove at McCullough Yard in Norwood. Enjoy cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the lounge of The Observatory at the Bon Voyage party. As you retire to your sleeping quarters for the night the cars are prepared to make the descent into Cincinnati Union Terminal to join the eastbound Amtrak Cardinal en route to Washington, D.C.
Friday, February 20th
3:29 a.m. We will depart Cincinnati behind Amtrak’s Cardinal line as we head east to Washington, D.C. Awake to a breakfast prepared by Chef Bill, lunch served early afternoon.
5:55 p.m. Arrive in Washington, D.C. at Amtrak's Union Station where the cars will be cut from the train and parked for the duration of our stay in our nation's capitol. Upon arrival in Washington, D.C. you are free to de-board and head out into the city to sightsee and dine for dinner. Dinner is on your own.
Saturday, February 21st
A light continental breakfast is served before you de-board the train to spend the day dining and sightseeing in Washington, D.C. Lunch is on your own. We recommend re-boarding the train by 5:30 p.m. for the early evening departure.
6:30 p.m. Enjoy a gourmet dinner prepared by our private chef as we depart Union Station behind Amtrak’s Crescent line. Stay up for cocktails if you wish, and retire to your sleeping quarters for the night.
Sunday, February 22nd
Enjoy fine gourmet meals prepared by our private chef as we travel southwards toward New Orleans. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served en route.
7:33 p.m. Arrive in New Orleans at Amtrak's New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. You are free to de-board the train for some sightseeing before returning to the rail cars to retire for the night.
Monday, February 23rd
Awake to our first full day in New Orleans. Enjoy a light continental breakfast before departing for a day of exploration and fun in New Orleans. Lunch and dinner are on your own. At the end of the day retire back to the rail cars and enjoy a full night’s rest in your private sleeping quarters.
Tuesday, February 24th
Time to celebrate Mardi Gras! Grab your coffee and Danish and head out for the day to enjoy the carnival! At the end of the day retire back to the rail cars and enjoy a full night’s rest in your private sleeping quarters.
Wednesday, February 25th
7:10 a.m. Depart New Orleans behind Amtrak’s Crescent line. Awake for breakfast or sleep in – It was a long night! Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served en route. Retire to your private sleeping quarters for the night as we continue to travel to Washington, D.C.
Thursday, February 26th
10:10 a.m. Arrive in Washington, D.C. at Amtrak's Union Station. Our cars will be parked at Union Station for the duration of our stay in Washington, D.C. Enjoy breakfast upon awaking in the morning then enjoy a free day to spend as you choose.
Friday, February 27th
11:10 a.m. Depart Washington, D.C. behind Amtrak’s Cardinal line. A light breakfast will be served followed by lunch and dinner as we travel back to Cincinnati. Retire to your sleeping quarters in the evening for your last night on the train!
Saturday, February 28th
1:03 a.m. Arrive back in Cincinnati. De-board at your leisure in the morning at McCullough Yard after a light continental breakfast.
Accommodations and Pricing
The Observatory
Master Bedroom A: $3,700 based on double occupancy
Accommodations include a private shower & toilet.
Bedroom B: $3,500 based on double occupancy
Accommodations include a private toilet- shares shower with adjoining bedroom C.
Bedroom C: $3,500 based on double occupancy
Accommodations include a private toilet- shares shower with adjoining bedroom B.
Each of The Observatory’s bedrooms can accommodate two people on either a queen sized bed (in the master bedroom) or one of the full sized double beds in Bedroom B & C.
Birch Grove
Double Bedroom: $3,300 based on double occupancy
Accommodations include two 6’ 4” twin beds that are stored in the wall during the day to create a private lounge and pulled down at night for sleeping. These rooms each contain a private toilet and share the public shower with the other Birch Grove bedrooms and roomettes.
Single Roomette:
With private toilet: $1,600
Accommodations include a 6’ 4” twin bed that is stored in the wall during the day to create a private lounge and pulled down and night for sleeping. These rooms each contain a private toilet and share the public shower with the other Birch Grove bedrooms and roomettes.
Without private toilet: $1,550
Accommodations include a 6’ 4” twin bed that is stored in the wall during the day to create a private lounge and pulled down at night for sleeping. These roomettes share the public toilet and shower with the other Birch Grove bedrooms and roomettes.
