1949 Theme Night

The Cincinnati Dinner train in conjunction with Mitchell’s Salons and Day Spa are taking you back a half century, to the year 1949, as Friday, May 14th 2010 magically becomes Friday, May 14th 1949. All 108 of our Dinner Train guests will come dressed in 1949 attire for a dinner cruise back in time. Being 1949 and all, many of our guests may opt to attend in their military uniforms being that so many are still in the military or were just recently discharged.  Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller tunes will be heard as you board our 1947 New York Central dining car number 447 or our 1946 Milwaukee Road table car number 201. You will be greeted and served by our staff dressed in period attire. There may even be an appearance by the famous Andrew Sisters and other stars of the era.

Just prior to our 6.00 PM departure, we have a special surprise for our guests. The president of the New York Central Railroad, Gustov Metzman and his wife Nadine Vanderbilt Metzman are scheduled to arrive in his 1940 Buick limousine in order to ride along with us in his private luxury business car, “Chapel Hill”, which will be hooked to the back of our train. Mr. Metzman’s private business car was built in 1922 by E.F. Hutton for his new bride Marjorie Merriweather Post.  The car features its original wood paneled interior along with its lounge with rear windows looking out the back.

We have it from a very reliable source that if Mr. Metzman is in a good mood; he plans to invite many of our guests back to his private lounge area for a visit. Your party might be one of the lucky groups to be asked to come back for a tour of his car and to have your picture taken with him by his personal photographer. Mr. Metzman is very fashion conscience and tends to ask those who appear to be the most stylish back to his private car, so it may pay dividends to be decked out in your best 1949 attire.

For our female passengers, our friends at Mitchell’s Salons and Day Spa have brought in highly skilled 1949 era stylist to be available to style a number of vintage hair styles just for this occasion. Call any of the Mitchells OR Pump locations to schedule your appointment on Friday, just prior to our 1949 dinner cruise. Mention that you are going back to 1949 that evening and receive a 25% discount compliments of Mitchell’s Salon and Day Spa.

This event will be a four hour event as opposed to our normal three hour cruise.  Following dinner, we will return from the Riverfront to the old Norwood Train Station in Norwood, Ohio.  Upon arrival, we will de-board and enter the Station where a six piece 1940’s band will be playing tunes from the big band era.  After a ninety minute stay, we will re-board for our trip back to BBQ Revue, arriving promptly at 10:00 pm.
Our servers will be evaluating and voting on five couples they feel best represents 1949 through their dress, hair style and demeanor. The winners will receive the following:

Fifth place - a fifty dollar gift certificate to BBQ Revue for lunch or dinner
Fourth place - a family four pack ticket to the LM&M Scenic Railway in Lebanon, Ohio
Third place - a $100.00 gift certificate to Mitchells Salon and Day Spa
Second place - two tickets to the Cincinnati Dinner Train, a value of $149.00
First place - a single roomette or 50% off of a double bedroom on the private car “Birch Grove” for the June, 2010 Northern Arrow private charter trip to Petoskey, Michigan, a value of $2000.00.  The winner of this prize will also have the option to use the award on another future private charter trip if the Petoskey trip is not convenient.
Tickets for this very special dinner train experience are just $119.95 per person. This price does not include gratuities, cash bar or souvenir photographs.
