AAPRCO 2009 Convention Trip Savannah, Ga.

Cincinnati- Washington, D.C.-Florida- Savannah-Washington, D.C.-Cincinnati

Trip Summary

Join the Cincinnati Railway Company as two of our private luxury rail cars travel to Savannah, Ga. for the 2009 AAPRCO convention. AAPRCO has “put together three days of convention activities coupled with five days of a little over two thousand miles of special train travel that will provide you education, entertainment, and enjoyment.”* Our trip will originate in Cincinnati and travel behind the Amtrak Cardinal to Washington, D.C. where we will meet up with other AAPRCO members and their private rail cars from throughout the United States and Canada. Once all private rail cars have arrived in Washington, D.C. the convention special train will be formed to pull all rail cars from Washington, D.C through Florida via special arrangement with CSX and FEC (Florida East Coast Railway) and back up Savannah to the convention. Throughout the trip and for the duration of the convention the rail cars will be your rolling hotel during the stay in Savannah enjoy the convention and other specially planned activities.  AAPRCO at this time is still planning its activities and will announce them sometime in the future.  At the end of the convention, the convention train will return to Washington, D,C where it will break up and rail cars will return to their destinations.

7-9 p.m.: Board rail cars at McCullough Yard.

7 p.m.: Bon Voyage party

 

Friday October 30, 2009

3:29 a.m.: Depart Cincinnati behind Amtrak’s Cardinal

Breakfast and Lunch will be served in transit.  If we are running late, Dinner will also be served aboard as well.

5:55 p.m.: Arrive in Washington, D.C.

The evening is yours to spend as you like.

Monday November 2, 2009

Special train departs Washington, D.C. early morning and travels the former Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac and the CSX “A” Line (former Atlantic Coast Line) Arriving Jacksonville, FL late evening.

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be served in transit.

Overnight in Jacksonville.

 

Tuesday November 3, 2009

This morning the train will depart Jacksonville and travel south on the Florida East Coast Railway, crossing the Saint Johns River bridge and traveling along the scenic east coast of north Florida to City Point where the train will park until Wednesday morning. A special lunch and extensive tour of the Kennedy Space Center will take place over the next 4 hours.

Overnight in Fort Pierce.

 

Wednesday November 4, 2009

Special train departs Fort Pierce and travels north on FEC to St.Augustine. We stop and park at St.Augustine for 3.5 hours to allow participants to tour and enjoy lunch in the oldest city in the United States. Depart mid-afternoon and travel north on FEC to Jacksonville. Continue north on CSX, arriving Savannah in mid-evening.

Cars will be parked at Amtrak’s Savannah station for the duration of the convention.

The convention will be held in beautiful, historic Savannah, GA.

Dinner will be served in transit.

11:10 a.m.: Depart Washington, D.C behind Amtrak’s Cardinal.

1:03 a.m.: Arrive back in Cincinnati.

Upon arrival at the Cincinnati Union terminal the rail cars will be removed from the Amtrak Cardinal and moved to our rail yard in Norwood. Feel free to continue to sleep and de-board upon awakening in the morning after enjoying the continental breakfast.

 

Accommodations & Pricing

Birch Grove

Double Bedroom: $3,299 Based on Double Occupancy

Accommodations include two 6’ 4” twin beds that are stored in the wall during the day to create a private lounge and pulled down at night for sleeping. Some of these rooms contain a private toilet and some share the public shower with the other Birch Grove bedrooms and roomettes.

Single Roomette:$3,299 Based on Single Occupancy

Accommodations include a 6’ 4” twin bed that is stored in the wall during the day to create a private lounge and pulled down and night for sleeping. Some of these rooms contain private toilets and some share the public shower with the other Birch Grove bedrooms and roomettes.
